Always use the rated load and bolt torque stamped on the hoist ring and listed in the manufacturer's current instructions. Values can change and differ between models. Contact us to confirm the rating for a specific part before you lift.

How to size a swivel hoist ring

  • Find the total load weight and how many lifting points share it.
  • Account for sling angle: the steeper the angle from vertical, the higher the load on each point.
  • Plan for an unbalanced load; one point may carry more than its share.
  • Pick a hoist ring whose rated load meets or exceeds the load on each point.
  • Match the bolt thread and length to the tapped hole and required thread engagement.
  • Torque the bolt to the manufacturer's specification.

Need more capacity?

For loads above the standard range, ask about heavy-duty swivel hoist rings from ADB and Carr Lane. For wide pull angles see side-pull hoist rings, and for permanent lifting points see weld-on hoist rings.

FAQ

Hoist ring capacity questions

Does a swivel hoist ring lose capacity at an angle?

Swivel hoist rings are designed to swivel and pivot to align with the sling, so they keep their rated load at angles within the manufacturer's rating. The sling angle does increase the load on each lifting point, so size for the actual load per point.

What is the rated load of a 1/2-13 swivel hoist ring?

A Carr Lane standard-ring 1/2-13 swivel hoist ring is rated for 2,500 lbs. Other brands and series may differ, so always check the rating on the part you use.

Do you have metric hoist ring capacities?

Yes. Metric swivel hoist rings are rated in kilograms and vary by brand. Send us your metric thread size and we'll confirm the rated load and availability.

Not sure which size you need?
