Side-Pull Hoist Rings

Side-pull hoist rings and side-load lifting rings from Carr Lane, Actek and ADB, built for angular lifts, tilting and turning loads where a vertical lift isn't possible.

What is a side-pull hoist ring?

A side-pull hoist ring is a bolt-on lifting point designed to be loaded from the side, not just straight up. The ring or bail pivots to follow the sling, and the body is engineered to carry its rated load at angles up to 90° from the bolt axis on models rated for full side loading.

That makes side-pull hoist rings the right choice for turning molds and dies, flipping weldments, tilting assemblies and lifting loads with wide sling angles.

Side-pull vs. standard swivel hoist rings

Standard swivel hoist rings rotate 360° and pivot 180°, and suit most angular lifts. Side-pull designs add a lower profile and a body built to resist bending under sideways load, which helps when clearance is tight or the pull is close to horizontal.

Side-pull hoist ring safety tips

  • Choose a side-pull hoist ring whose rated load covers the load on that point at the actual pull angle.
  • Torque the bolt to the manufacturer's specification with a calibrated torque wrench.
  • Make sure the bushing or base seats fully flat on the load surface.
  • Check that the ring pivots freely before every lift and never let it bind against the load.
  • Inspect regularly and remove from service per ASME B30.26 if damaged or worn.

Not sure which to choose?

Send us your load weight, pull angle and thread size. We'll recommend a side-pull, standard swivel or weld-on hoist ring that fits the job. Typical capacities by thread size are on our swivel hoist ring capacity chart.

FAQ

Side-pull hoist ring questions

When should I use a side-pull hoist ring?

Use a side-pull hoist ring when the sling pulls at a wide angle or sideways, such as when turning, tilting or flipping a load, or when overhead clearance forces a near-horizontal pull.

Do side-pull hoist rings lose capacity at an angle?

Side-pull hoist rings are designed to carry their rated load in the directions the manufacturer specifies. Always check the product's rating and loading diagram, and size for the load on each lifting point.

Are side-pull hoist rings available in metric threads?

Many models come in both inch (UNC) and metric threads. Tell us your thread size and we'll confirm availability.
